Beyond My Grasp
I have read every thread and every response on this website. I am inspired and in awe of power that has been unleashed here. It has left me almost stunned. In fact, I have hit the respond button a hundred times and rarely hit send because I'm not always sure I've found the words to really express what I was feeling. They're sometimes beyond my grasp.
Then I started thinking about the new members here, wandering in, maybe new to the N experience, and perhaps thinking to themselves, "Gee, I'm not even close to "here" yet. I'm not healed. I'm not sure I've even started. Look how far everyone has come."
I want to say something about that. I believe there is no "here" or "getting there" in healing. Healing is a process, not a destination. We are all healing. The healing started for each and every one of us some way, somehow the minute the wound was opened. Even when it was brand new, that wound in our souls was changing by the moment, growing new cells with every new, terrible, or heartwrenching experience.
It heals when we cry. It heals when we tell our stories over and over again. It heals when we get angry. It heals when we find comfort. It heals when we go right back to where we thought we'd already passed through and start all over again. And it just keeps on healing, every day, for as long as we live. We will heal a part of ourselves forever as long as we keep uncovering parts of ourselves that need that healing. That is growing. That is developing new skin instead of covering old scars.
So, dear friends, the people you see here are just like you, no matter how long they've been healing. And I bet they would tell you that they are not healed, no matter how together they seem. They are healing. Still. We are all healing different and the same things. And you are healing, too.
The only thing beyond my grasp is ever being completely healed. Thank goodness! What a wonderful thing to look forward to; always having the opportunity to grow. But healing itself as a process is not beyond anyone's grasp. It is not beyond anyone here. It is what we're all doing in our own way, whether we feel like we are or not. That, in fact, is why we are all here. We are all already healing. So share your pain, share your woes, share your glory, share your words. That's part of the journey. They all help you and everyone here do what we came here to do...keep healing.
