Kathleen writes:

"...Here is the path as I see it.

1.   Painful shock
2.   Negotiation with pain
3.   Recognition with the sociopath
4.   Anger
5.   Measurement of damage
6.   Surrender to reality of damage
7.   Review of identity after damage
8.   Rebuilding life strategies
9.   Practice

The words here are very dry, and I apologize for that. The experience, as we all know, is more emotional than intellectual, though it taxes our thinking heavily..."

A ha!!

so I'm straddling 7 and 8.  Cool...thats very cool...to have a sense of a timeline and my place on it.

What do you think she means by "recognition with the sociopath"?  The wording is a bit odd, it must mean something specific.

Hi Phoenix! She elaborates on each of the steps. To make it easier to retrieve Kathleen Hawk's articles on LoveFraud, I posted direct links on the above message.

oh dear, I read the "waking up" article and feel a little a nauseous. I fear this may be exactly what I need for recovery, but not at all what I wanted to learn.

I'm reminded of the old Tom Hanks move "The Money Pit." My soul is like that old mansion, crumbling around me. Try to fix one thing and you uncover 10 more expensive repair jobs that have to be done immediately.

I was hoping to just give it all a new coat of paint, but the foundations of my life are cracked, and fixing them won't be easy or fun.

It's a good thing I found a competent therapist.
