CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The narcissist requires excessive admiration, harbors a sense of entitlement and holds a preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty or ideal love, a crime scene analyst told jurors today in the aggravated murder trial of Yazeed Essa.

And prosecutors implied in their questioning that the description fits the former Gates Mills doctor to a T.

Essa, 41, is accused of poisoning his wife, Rosemarie, in 2005, then fleeing the country, leading law enforcement officials on an 18-month-long international manhunt. Prosecutors believe he laced his wife's calcium supplements with cyanide to free himself of a loveless marriage.

Witnesses have testified that Essa put himself and his pursuit of pleasure above his concern for others. He cheated on his wife with numerous women, spreading herpes to at least nine of them, witnesses have said. And not once has he requested to see his two young children, whom he abandoned when he fled the country.

Thanks, Litha!

I wanted to add one comment triggered by this news story: "Prosecutors believe he laced his wife's calcium supplements with cyanide to free himself of a loveless marriage." That really gets my goat since most people are told that their marriage was a 'mere convenience', that it was 'loveless', that both people were functioning without passion. I heard that anyway and no, I was not married for convenience sake nor lacking love for my spouse.

But as long as the Narcissist decides there's no love and the marriage is convenient only, that's all that matters. Whatever he thinks, you think, too. Whatever he says is true, he believes is true for you, too. They cannot fathom that other people have a separate identity of their own.

So was this jerk's marriage "loveless"? I suppose we'll never know the answer since he killed the Truth-Teller.

Hugs,
CZ

Just had to add this quote from his wife's good friend Eva McGregor:

When the Essas first were dating, Rosemarie Essa seemed blissfully happy, McGregor said. But one day, while Essa was having her hair done at a salon, she overheard a stylist talking about dating a man named Yazeed, who was also a doctor.

The couple split, and Rosemarie Essa was incredulous that the man she loved could betray her trust the way he had, McGregor said. Essa tried to move on with her life, McGregor said. But before she went on her first date with another man, she learned from her doctor that she had contracted herpes from Yazeed Essa and was too embarrassed and upset to pursue the new relationship.

Essa managed to win her back, despite McGregor’s warnings, she said.

"My relationship with her was very honest and straightforward," McGregor said. "I told her, ‘What makes you think things will change? He’s a doctor, and he gave you herpes.’"

Investigators say Rosemarie Essa told her longtime friend weeks before her death that her mouth burned after she sipped from a soda can that was left in her car. When she questioned her husband, he told her that he accidentally spilled antifreeze into the can while he worked on the car.

What else is there to say???

He was convicted today. Unfortunately Cypress would not agree to extradition unless the prosecutors guaranteed that they would not pursue the death penalty. But he will spend the rest of his pathetically narcissistic life behind bars.

the death penalty would be too nice anyway, he deserves what he got, and after he served his time: may he rot in hell.
