In order to post images on your messages, you will need to create an account with an online photo-storage site like Photobucket. There are many sites offering this service but the easiest one to use (in my opinion) is Photobucket. You can register for a 'free' account and unless you are posting giant photographs everyday, you will likely never run out of 'free' storage space.

Photobucket

To join Photobucket and set up a 'free' account, go here: Photobucket.com Follow their directions and upload a few images from your computer to get yourself started. It may take a little bit of practice and time, so if you have any questions, just ask. Many of us have created Photobucket accounts and we can help you if you get stuck.

WoN

Call up a new message window OR a new topic window. At the top of the 'blank box' is a list of icons. The image icon is located on the second row of icons, third from the right. Hold your cursor over the icons and a little pop-up window will identify the purpose of the icon. In this case, the popup window will say "insert image." click that icon.

A set of brackets will appear on your message with the command IMG inserted between them.

Copy the url to your image and post it IN BETWEEN the brackets. That's it. If you want to check and see if your picture was added correctly, click on the PREVIEW button at the bottom of the message box. Then once you click POST, the image will appear on the thread.

Back to Photobucket

After you have uploaded several images to your Photobucket account, click on the image you want to add to your message. On the left side of the screen is a list of options:

Email
Direct link
HTML
IMG code

It's easiest to use IMG code by clicking on the url. You will see a yellow popup window indicating the url has been COPIED to your mouse. All you have to do at that point is PASTE the copied url to your message box.

The IMG url on Photobucket already includes [IMG] brackets. This means you will not need to click on the message window icon.

If you have any questions or problems, you can post to this thread OR post on the General board.

Have fun!

Hugs,
CZ

Dear all,

The reason you cannot upload images to WoN is because of our storage space. It doesn't take very long to use up the storage space I have purchased if people are uploading images to our website. By using Photobucket, THEY provide a limited amount of free storage for your images and they also 'censor' any images that might be offensive. This means, I'm sorry to tell y'all, that you cannot upload your favorite porn images and post them on WoN. What happens is that Photobucket will block those images from your account.

I tried uploading an image I didn't find offensive (a picture of a brain that looked like a 'butt') and Photobucket disagreed with my decency standards.  This image was 'blocked' by their cyberspace censor which is fine. I'm just letting you know that if you like pictures of narcissist's butt-brains, don't ask Photobucket to store the picture for you.

Please, please, please use a Photobucket service for your images. When people copy images from other sites and link those to WoN without having stored the image on their own computer and uploaded it to their Photobucket account, that is called HOTLINKING.

When the url to an image is hotlinked directly from a website, this uses THEIR storage space on YOUR/OUR website and that's not fair.

I don't think most people realize what they are doing when they HOTLINK an image. Now that I am paying for our webspace, it has certainly come to my attention. This is another reason why I use a Photobucket account instead of uploading my images on WoN. Anyone clicking on WoN images and pasting them elsewhere, is using up the bandwidth we have for our message board.

I am guilty of doing exactly that prior to understanding how HOTLINKING worked.  Now I know and now I am responsible.  It takes a little longer to copy and image you like from another website, uploading it to YOUR computer and then uploading it to Photobucket, but it's the fair-and-right thing to do.

Thanks all,
CZ
