Facebook launched "Facebook Places" yesterday. ANYONE can find out where you are when you are logged in.(potential stalking or your favorite TV show...Big Brother) It gives the actual address & map of where you are as you use Facebook. Make sure your safe. TO UNDO: go to"Account", "Account Settings", "Notifications", then scroll down to "Places" and uncheck the 2 b...oxes. Make sure to SAVE changes..

Make sure your kids do the same.

Facebook has been fun -finding old friends and keeping in touch with family - but they are becoming more and more invasive.  I wish they would STOP THIS.  Honey

Thanks, RB.  I've unchecked "Places" too.

Look forward to this being in the news even more than it has been, as their unsuspecting soul members don't do so ....

D, to her never-ending social chagrin, still doesn't have a Facebook page.

DH has never felt comfortable about using FB, our extended family and friends call him Paranoid Papa -- I guess not so paranoid! He has a great intuition/instinct and is learning to trust it more. Thanks for the info. Can you imagine his reaction when I tell him about this?

Thank You RB, DH said he has heard about this, he stays updated w/computer stuff via career in design and marketing. He does not feel comfortable w/FB doing this sort of stuff. This should be something you opt in not have to opt out. Thank you for the post and the step-by-step easy instr. to follow. I just changed my FB settings.

Wow, that is totally creepy. I'm really glad I deleted my Facebook account a long time ago. After hearing so much on the news about how your information really isn't totally safe and can accidentally leak out really freaked me out.

Now seeing something like this that is an intentional feature to expose people is just plain crazy. I really don't see the point to such a feature. It's the perfect tool for someone who is up to no good and is searching for easy targets.

Hi Sugar,

Claims about FB from the media have been greatly exaggerated. Most of the time, the media loves to create chaos---that is what keeps up their ratings! LOL
To safeguard privacy on FB, do NOT post any private information such as your phone number or address and make sure the settings are "friends only."  There is this saying, "Never
post stuff that will bite you in the azz. People have lost their jobs due to venting on FB about their employers or other incidents at work about customers.

Yeah, I had some suspicions that they were exaggerated claims. But I am an EXTREME worrier, so when I hear something like that, I get easily scared. :D

But that wasn't the real reason I deleted my Facebook. That was actually because of my NM - she doesn't have one, but I was so scared of her somehow getting into my account since I had used the same computer as her before I got my own. Then after that, I really saw no reason to get it back and doing the work to build up my page again when I could just use e-mail, LOL.

Thanks for the info, I changed my settings as well.

A good rule of thumb for FB, Twitter and anything on line:  do not post anything that you would not want on a billboard in the middle of Times Square.

I received an email notice from my kids HS... asking parents to make sure that our kids that have facebook pages do this.  Our sheriff advised the schools to do this... too many predators access kids via a search for the nearest schools... and a host of kids will pop up... someone will friend them... which opens the door to everyone else.  If a predator can't find where the kid is transmitting from... at least there is one level of protection.  Better safe than sorry.

I tell my kids the billboard rule, also.

Employers are now looking at facebook pages when someone calls in sick... post news or a photo of a trip to the beach... don't even bother coming in.  Pick up your personal effects at the security desk.

Just be careful... as much as you can.

Hugs,

RB
