I will never forget the day when...
« on: September 01, 2010, 11:44:08 AM »
Too many numerous dates to count, but when my second daughter was born, she said not everyone is lucky enough to have one of each.  Like I had failed her once again.  She has 5 daughters.  The very last time I ever tried to please her was when I received my first patent as a Chemist.  I told her and her whole comment was oh, did I tell you your sister is going for her masters degree.  UGH.  Not congratulations, or good for you.  just oh...Then she turns around and brags about it to the relatives.  I will never understand how someone can be so devoid of emotion toward their children.

Scapegoat,
My exNH used to sabotage me all the time when it came to training for events, or fixing things up around the house, or when I tried to accomplish anything.

I found out years later that he used to brag to his friends about my 'accomplishments', but never ONCE did he say, "gee I'm proud of you', or "wow!  congratulations".

I just chalked it up to seeing me as an extension of himself.  He bragged about me when it was a good reflection on him, but he could not have cared less how he treated me or how I felt about having to fight him on every level, just to keep my head above water.

Scapegoat,  I don`t understand how some parents can have no love or affection towards their own kids either. It`s mind baffeling.

"I will never understand how someone can be so devoid of emotion toward their children." ~ Scapegoat

Scape goat there may possibly be a day that you can accept that their are people who are devoid of emotion toward their children . It is not something that can be understood. I mean can you understand what it is like not having any arms? How bout ... no eye sight?

As a person with empathy there is no way I can really imagine what it would be like to be with out empathy. All I can experience is how it is to be empathetic and how confusing it is when another person lacks that awareness. For me... it feels like hitting a wall. Where something could be receptive it is rejecting. So easy to be receptive, for me but so easy for the other person to be rejecting.

Also , you story above is most identical to something my mother would do and say, has said and done.  It is a messed up head space.

One word of advise... the less reaction you give to that kind of non sense the less it happens. The narcissistic parent looks for the reward of the childs injury. It means their words have importance. Really this kind of wordage is hardly important. It isn't even truth ... just non sense.

(((hugs)))
