Chat Thread 2: Whatever you Wanna Talk About
« on: January 16, 2012, 12:41:39 PM »

Sydney Fireworks suggested starting a chit-chat thread where members can talk about whatever they wanna talk about. You don't have to discuss narcissism or sociopathy or psychopathy, or even narcissistic traits. You can talk about anything you want to talk about. Or maybe just post a quote that touched your heart.

This thread will STICK to the top of the General Board. Once it reaches ten pages in length, we'll start a new one! The idea kinda reminds me of an expanded ShoutBox (for those who haven't yet discovered the ShoutBox, it's on the left sidebar.)

Hugs all,
CZ

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a fun website that a friend introduced me to. I believe it's something that will be a positive distraction tool for me when I get caught up in ruminations or as CZ likes say, "Stinkin Thinkin"

Maybe some of you have heard of it and already joined. It's called pinterest. You create your own boards and pin anything you like. Whatever hobby or interest you could have is pretty much on there. Except of course N.  =msn wink= We have WoN for that and thank goodness!!

Check it out if it sounds like your thing. I find it a lot of fun. It can be a tad addictive too.  =msn embarassed= but it's a good addiction! It is kind of set up in a social networking format. You create a profile, but it's not super detailed. You can get followers and follow others. I'm not even focusing on that. I don't care how many followers I have, I'm just enjoying creating little boards with ideas and inspirations. It's all about idea sharing.

Take care!

Dangit! It's 70 degrees again. That's three days in a row. Winter's over. I love winter (all five days of it) 'cosI have some cute, cute clothes for that season and I've had them forever and they are still cute because I never get to wear them, dammit! I want to move to Yorkshire, but then I might have to break down and actually buy a coat.

Cats are lazy in the sun, but Muffin is smart and stays in the shade since she's so dark.

Daisy,

I am addicted to Pinterest... and have met a lot of others also addicted to the site.  At least it gives me DIY, Craft, and Party ideas. Getting a glimpse into other people's creativity is inspiring to me.

See you around the boards...

Muffin is supposedly a tri-colored tortie and her eyes are turquoise.......she's overly affectionate and smart as they come. Skyler is a lazy, red point tabby mix with a checkerboard nose and blue eyes. I love my babies. If it was for the dang cats, I probably wouldn't be here.

Are you feeling better today, Rosemary???? I wish I could send you a big bag of West Texas sunshine, but if you got some from today, you'd be getting a nasty little dirt storm right along with the sunshine. It's Spring, so the sand is blowing along with the wind.

Loved seeing the photos of your kitties, Legs. They are both beautiful and sweet looking:) Have they always been together? I'd love to get a companion for my cat, Harrison. Just not sure how he'd react as he's been the only one for 8 yrs now. I saw a gorgeous 6 month old female cat(looks a lot like your Skyler-similar coloring and long hair) up for adoption at the the pet store today where I buy food..I was so tempted.

Daisy, you're the second person that has mentioned Pinterest to me, so I had to check it out. Not sure how it all works, but I had fun exploring.

Here's a photo of our dog, Penny. She is a mutt, but a designer mutt. She is a cross between a Bichon Frise and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I heard about this crossbreed and thought just maybe these breeds would be able to put up with my (then) small children unlike most small breeds. She is a very friendly and patient dog, happy to go to the beach for the day, and just as happy lying around at home for weeks in the rainy weather with only a daily walk around the block.

Here she is today, with her new haircut. I have been clipping her myself whenever she gets matted (easily....)

And here she is with her hair grown out, all dolled up by my girls.

Dear Julia,

<< Have they always been together? I'd love to get a companion for my cat, Harrison. Just not sure how he'd react as he's been the only one for 8 yrs now. I saw a gorgeous 6 month old female cat(looks a lot like your Skyler-similar coloring and long hair) up for adoption at the the pet store today where I buy food..I was so tempted.>>

No,, Skyler is about eight and Muffin just turned three-ish. When I bring in a new cat, the first thing is off to the vet for their shots and a kitty AIDS test or Feline HIV and leukemia......they stay in a separate room or maybe even in the garage (somewhere where the other cats never go) until they are declared clean. If they do have either one of those things, then I just ask the vet to put them down which seems mean, but they were strays anyway and that's the chance they took when they decided to live on my back patio.

I also get them neutered if they're big enough and get their shots....then when they come home, I put the new cat in a spare bedroom (this was when I had a house with such things.....I don't know how I could introduce a new cat into an apartment the size of a garage) and let them stay there for a few days with their food and litter.

I visit them a lot and the other cats can smell them on me and they know someone new is in the house..they make visits "under the door" and sometimes growl a little and there might be some hissing.

Then after a few days when everyone has calmed down, I bring the new cat out for an hour or so or until someone freaks out...but usually there's just a lot of butt sniffing and maybe some slapping..the new cat goes back in their "room" and then later I bring them out again so I can watch them...this usually never takes more than 2-3 times....pretty soon they figure out who the alpha cat will be, but I have been lucky and none of my cats have ever been very territorial and they always end up eating off the same plate together and sleeping together and playing lick-y-lick-y which may or may not turn into bite-y bite-y.Then that usually turns into another repeat of the Muffin and Skyler Show where they run all around the house with the object being never to actually touch the floor.

I have always had either a male and a female (both neutered) or two males (again, neutered) Female cats can be territorial,  much more so than neutered males, and I have never had a problem except when I tried to have two unrelated females together.....

Maybe they would let you take the little female and try her for a week? Has she had all the blood tests and whatnot? I have sometimes brought in a "feral" cat who was friendly, but raised outside and the old cat will teach the new cat how to use the littler box and most cats like to have another cat around. There are some cats who do NOT, and you'll see that within a few days..I'd say if one cat is still attacking another cat for a week or 10 days, then they are probably not going to bond.

I am attracted to very loving, responsive cats that are really more doggie-like...they come when theyre called, the can (if the feel like it) follow directions, mine have to wear plastic covers on their claws so they won't scratch inside this apartment, but that also means they can't scratch each other even when they're playing.

I think two cats are so much better than one cat...they can groom each other and do funny cat things to each other and play weird cat games and keep each other company....if that little female has had all her tests and is safe, I'd give her a trial run if the store will let you.

Penny looks like a fancy stuffed TOY! And you floor is so CLEAN!!!!!!!!!!!! I swore I'd never have another long-haired cat, but then Muffin showed up and would NOT leave...she spent two months outside showing me how cute and smart she was, so finally....................well, you know.

How does Penny get along with the kitty? My cats and dogs were all fine together since the dogs were raised with cats. They knew the cats were the boss of them, like they are the boss of everyone!

Legs, I just have the one dog, two pics of her. I used to have cats, but they have died. I decided I a a dog person though, at least I haven't ever found a cat that could compare to the one I loved when I was a child. She was a lot like a dog though........Also, one of my daughter's best friend is seriously allergic and so we never considered replacing the last cat.

sorry, I meant Talia and don't know what I typed Julia.not the same name at ALL! Yes, there are dats and cogs and there are cats and dogs...I like the animals that combine the best of both creatures...I like the self-sufficiencyof the cat but the adoration you get from a dog......I need an animal that I can TALK to and I like one that answers........

I have never had a dog from a puppy. Only grown dogs that I  was a little bit scared of.......

Yay, she is a great dog, and was super cute as a puppy - about 3.5 pounds at 3 months and so friendly. Also she has those amazing Spaniel eyes.

You'd get along well with our Spinxy-girl, then.  She's a talker.  When anyone comes in the house, friend, family or stranger, she runs to greet them and share her opinion about everything.  She follows us around the house, and is always up for a chat and interested in everything we do.  She's a "cog" for sure.

I've decided that I love dogs, but I love them to belong to someone else.  I like to go see my friends and love on their dogs, and leave them there.  I don't like having to be in charge of a pet, or train them to obey, or take them out in the freezing rain in January at 2am and stand around while they take 20 minutes to find the right spot to pee.  Basically, I'm not cut out to be the alpha-biptch, I'd rather just be bossed around by cats.  =tongue2=

Julia,

Penny is adorable! How can anyone not fall in love with that face(?).... =msn heart=

Legs,

Thank-you!! =msn tulip= I've copied your post. It will be very useful for when I find the right cat. I'm pretty sure the kitty that was up for adoption had her shots and was spayed. I didn't know to ask about the HIV test or leukimia test. I've got the number of the person that has her up for adoption. I wanted to think about it for a bit, so she may not be available still. She was described as timid and shy...(which I thought might be good(?) as the new kitty in the house. It would be great if I was allowed to give it a trial run.

Another question, if you don't mind. The plastic covers for the claws...Do they get changed periodically? Cost? Too late to introduce to Harrison(8yrs old)? That's one thing about Harrison that's an issue I've lived with. I've put that double sided adhesive tape on the furniture and it is not so transparent as advertized!..Ya, not pretty.

.Then that usually turns into another repeat of the Muffin and Skyler Show where they run all around the house with the object being never to actually touch the floor.

LOL!!

thanks again,
talia

the soft claws have to be applied with super glue...when they naturally shed a claw "casing" or cover, then you have to put on a new one. If you really get it on good, it will last for several weeks

some cats are pretty good about letting you do it and the most important thing is to find the right size tip......it needs to slide on but fit firmly and need to be seated correctly. I just put one on at a time and usually have to replace only one of two at a time......you have to trim a tiny point off their real claw, but leave as much claw as you can so the fake cover claw can have as much room as possible to attach...then you need to fold them for 3-5 minutes so the claw is firmly attached.

They seem expensive....about 20 bucks for 40 claws, but that might last you six months if you have the right size and get them applied correctly.....Muffin must need a kitten size because all the ones I've tried have not stayed on ....Skyler is really good about letting me do it. He was six when I started doing it..I trimmed his claws first..just the tiniest sharp tip...don't cut too far back as you want as much claw as possible. I have some medium  size claws that don't fir either one of my cats....I'd be happy to send them to you if you want to try them (they're Halloween Orange)

I do NOT like the glue they sell and I use super glue though they say not too.....I've been using it for two years and have not seen an bad results plus the glue they sell is crappy and doesn't work anyway... I can
t believe I can't find them cheaper somewhere but I can't.

so let me know if you want to try the medium size orange claws I have.....no oene here can use them.

I am just not happy that Eli Manning is going to the super bowl - I bet my son a hot fudge sundae on the Pats (and I do not like them either!)
Now - bring me that horizon
